A PCA will follow a plan of care, written by the nurse, that will encompass all or part of the duties listed. They can perform household duties, as well as assist with hands-on care for the patient. A PCA can remind the patient to take medications and accompany the patient to medical appointments, but they cannot administer medication on their own for the patient. These professionals help people who are living with physical or mental disabilities to perform day-to-day activities and lead normal lives.
